Best of Barnum: A Guided Hike

ToDoOntario - YoursOutdoors, Barnum Creek Winter

How much of your backyard have you explored? Yours Outdoors is proud to partner with the Haliburton Highlands Land Trust to offer guided hikes of the newly-opened Barnum Creek Nature Reserve.

The property is a spectacular example of the diversity of ecosystems in the Haliburton Highlands. The Reserve includes habitats ranging from Tolerant Hardwood Forest, Mixed wood Forest, Marsh and Swamp as well as Open Upland Successional Forest habitat which is reclaiming former agricultural land.

A significant component of the property is comprised of mature maple forest with abundant ground cover including wild leek, blue cohosh, leatherwood and maidenhair fern. Calcareous soils, which are limited in the Haliburton Highlands, are derived from fingers of marble, dolostone and limestone extending into the granitic rock that dominates the landscape.

Join a knowledgeable hiking guide for a 2-3 hour hike around the Nature Reserve, learning about everything the region has to offer, and the rich history and stories of the area.

Please note that all COVID precautions are in place, and upon registration all participants will be required to complete a waiver, and medical form with COVID-related questions.

For winter hikes snowshoes may be required. Rental are available or bring your own.
