Introduction to Geocaching

ToDoOntario - Yours Outdoors - Rock Hounding

In Ontario, deep in the Haliburton Highlands a string of seven hamlets in the Municipality of Highlands East and at the South Gate of Algonquin Park is the Geocaching Capital of Canada. The communities of Irondale, Gooderham, Tory Hill, Wilberforce, Harcourt, Highland Grove and Cardiff invite you to explore the natural beauty of the area and enjoy treasure hunting at its best.

Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices or smart phones. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location.

The Geocaching Capital of Canada is home to the number one rated GeoTour in Canada and fourth in the world.  Their GeoTour is a collection of 150 fun to find caches. Spread out through the Municipality of Highlands East, these caches will take you along quiet hiking trails, beside beautiful lakes and to interesting historic sites and points of interest. Some are whimsical, some are wacky, some are traditional.
