Reception for Spring Exhibitions – CANCELLED

To Do Ontario, Spring Exhibition Reception @ MacLaren Art Centre

The MacLaren Art Centre is thrilled to announce the spring season of exhibitions. Visit the gallery on Thursday, March 19 for the opening reception and exhibition walkthroughs with the curators and several exhibiting artists. Refreshments will be served and all are welcome.

In his Ancestors drawings, artist John Gould (1929-2010) sought to capture “a frozen tableau of the mind, without philosophic emphasis, without narrative line, without a specific setting.” Drawn from public and private collections, this is the largest presentation of these acclaimed works in recent years. Complementing this solo show Until death it is all life is a group show drawn from the MacLaren’s rich holding of figurative and portraiture works. This show features such notable artists as Carl Beam, David Craven, Frances Flaherty, Sadko Hadzihasanovic, Frederick Hagan, George Littlechild, Henry Moore, Valerie Palmer, Christopher Pratt, Phil Richards, Jeff Thomas and Joyce Wieland. Contemporary Canadian artists Joanne Tod and Renée Van Halm came of age at a period of time in Toronto during which painters were returning to figuration. Irruptions pairs works by these artists from our Collection that demonstrate their investigations into painting as a medium while engaging in imagist practices.

Our Spring Exhibitions are made possible with the generous support of the Sandbox Centre.

Remarks at 7:15 pm. Exhibition tours at 7:30 pm
Admission free
